Point Lobos State Reserve

Point Lobos State Reserve is the Disneyland of California State Parks. The park is very developed with copious facilities and parking areas, along with throngs of visitors on weekends. Large families, group picnics, tour groups, you name it.  If you want peace and quiet I suggest coming here on a weekday. Nonetheless, Point Lobos features beautiful scenery with rugged coves, hidden beaches, and stands of enchanting Monterey Pines and Monterey Cypress.  We did a 6 mile hike of the periphery of the reserve starting at roadside parking along highway 1. My favorite section of the park was the north shore trail where the trees grow on rugged rocks right next to the ocean.
